We offer two certification programs, one for those new to service-learning and one for more experienced practitioners. The skills you learn in both programs further equip you to make positive change through service-learning.

Certificate of Excellence in Service-Learning Practice

Our Certificate of Excellence in Service-Learning Practice is a 5-month certification program, designed for participants new to service-learning. Through academic training, practice, and networking opportunities, this certification program develops the capacity of community volunteers, students, AmeriCorps members, and community organizers to utilize knowledge and skills to meet genuine community needs. 

Certification recognizes that participants have:

  • Assisted community agencies in better meeting needs

  • Increased their knowledge of societal injustices

  • Advanced their education

  • Developed knowledge and skills through real-world learning

All classes will be held in person remotely via Zoom from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. CST with the exception of Oct. 24* which will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. CST.

Payments & Cancellation

  • Join now for $1,200. Payment is due prior to the course start date. Scholarships are available to those who qualify. To request scholarship information, email [email protected].

  • Requests for withdrawal from the course will be accepted up to 30 days prior to the cohort start date with a full refund (minus processing fees). Refunds will not be provided to participants who withdraw within 30 days of the start date. NYLC will work with participants to apply the cost of the program towards future dates or events.

Certificate in Instructional Leadership

This program is designed for mid-level to advanced practitioners who are passionate about the benefits of engaging students in service-learning. The coursework supports organizations seeking to build the staff capacity for leadership within their schools or organizations. Through this certification program, educators and community leaders gain foundational knowledge and the essential tools to inspire and prepare themselves and others to tap into the power of service-learning. 

As a cohort, participants are immersed in the pedagogy, process, research, and planning of service-learning through hands-on experiences. The program’s combination of content related to service-learning and instructional leadership makes it unique in its offerings. It’s relevant to school leaders, community program directors, curriculum coordinators, counselors, teachers, and youth workers. 

In this program, you’ll gain an understanding of service-learning as a teaching and learning strategy, explore approaches to instructional and organization leadership, build skills in problem-solving and program planning, and so much more.
