Supporting student success through afterschool programs.

We are committed to providing high-quality afterschool service-learning experiences that help young people develop skills and confidence that will help them find success in school and in life.

NYLC assists State Afterschool Networks in identifying the information needed to build a sustainable model for service-learning integration that will increase the quantity and quality of service-learning experiences for young people. Selected states received funding, technical support, and trainings so that service-learning becomes a sustainable and systematic part of afterschool learning.

How have State Afterschool Networks used Service-Learning as a Strategy for Out-of-School Programs?

“NYLC is our partner in championing service-learning in afterschool programs across Tennessee. For us, service-learning is an important strategy to support our kids academically, through career exploration, and leadership development. It grows the power of youth voice and helps our communities grow better citizens.”

Resources for Afterschool Programs

The Engage Service-Learning Handbook series is designed to help youth workers bring service-learning to afterschool programs in approximately 15 one-hour sessions. By the end of the experience, young people will have acted on issues of importance to them through a deliberative inquiry-based process!
